How to Install Crochet Braids
Create cornrows as a base, then use a crochet hook to pull pre-braided or curly hair through each braid to build volume and length.
- Prep your natural hair. Wash and condition your hair, then blow dry until completely dry. Apply a leave-in conditioner to protect your strands during the braiding process.
- Create the cornrow base. Section your hair into horizontal parts and braid tight cornrows from front to back. Keep rows about an inch apart for even distribution of the crochet hair.
- Thread the crochet hook. Fold one piece of crochet hair in half and place the folded loop on your crochet hook. Insert the hook under a cornrow from top to bottom.
- Pull through and secure. Pull the folded hair through the cornrow, creating a loop on top. Thread the loose ends through this loop and pull tight to secure the hair to your cornrow base.
- Continue the pattern. Repeat this process across each cornrow, spacing the crochet hair evenly. Work from the back of your head forward for easier access to all sections.
- Blend and style. Once all hair is installed, gently separate and fluff the crochet hair to blend with your natural hairline. Trim any uneven pieces and style as desired.
