Double French Braids

Part your hair down the middle and French braid each section from hairline to nape, crossing sections under instead of over for security.

  1. Create the center part. Use a rat-tail comb to draw a precise line from your forehead to the nape of your neck. Clip one section away while you work on the other.
  2. Start the first braid. Take a triangle section at your hairline and divide into three strands. Cross the right strand under the middle, then the left strand under the new middle.
  3. Add hair with each cross. Before each crossover, pick up a small section of loose hair and add it to the strand you're about to cross under. Keep your hands close to your scalp for control.
  4. Maintain even tension. Pull each section taut as you work down your head, but not tight enough to cause pain. The braid should sit flat against your scalp without gaps.
  5. Finish at the nape. Once you've incorporated all the hair from that section, continue with a regular three-strand braid to the ends. Secure with a clear elastic.
  6. Repeat on the other side. Mirror the same process on the second section, checking in a hand mirror to ensure both braids sit at the same height and angle.
