How to Install Faux Locs at Home
Wrap synthetic hair around small sections of your natural hair, seal the ends, and maintain tension for locs that last weeks.
- Prep your hair. Start with clean, stretched hair that's been detangled and sectioned into small squares using a rat-tail comb. Each section should be roughly the size you want your finished locs to be.
- Secure the synthetic hair. Take a small amount of synthetic loc hair and fold it in half around the root of your sectioned hair. Use the crochet method or simple wrapping to attach it securely at the base.
- Wrap and twist. Wrap the synthetic hair around your natural hair section in a tight, consistent spiral from root to tip. Keep tension even but not so tight it causes pain or breakage.
- Seal the ends. Dip the ends in hot water briefly or use the burning method if using synthetic hair that can be heat-sealed. This prevents unraveling and gives a finished look.
- Set and maintain. Sleep with a silk scarf or bonnet and avoid excessive manipulation for the first few days. Refresh with a light oil spray as needed.
