How to Do Flexi-Rod Heatless Curls
Wrap damp hair sections around flexible rods, starting from ends and rolling toward scalp, then leave overnight for defined curls without heat damage.
- Prep your hair. Start with clean, damp hair that's about 80% dry. Apply a lightweight mousse or curl cream through lengths and ends. Your hair should feel slightly tacky but not soaking wet.
- Section strategically. Part hair into 1-2 inch sections depending on your hair thickness and desired curl size. Smaller sections create tighter curls, larger sections give loose waves. Work in horizontal layers from bottom to top.
- Roll the rods. Place the rod at your hair ends and roll upward toward your scalp, keeping tension consistent but not tight. Bend the rod ends to secure in place. The key is even distribution of hair around the rod.
- Set overnight. Sleep with the rods in place, using a silk pillowcase or scarf to reduce friction. Your hair should be completely dry before removal. Remove rods carefully by unbending the ends and gently sliding out.
- Style the curls. Gently separate curls with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb. Scrunch in a light oil or serum for shine and frizz control. Avoid brushing which will destroy the curl pattern.
