How to Create an Infinity Braid
An infinity braid uses a figure-eight weaving pattern with two sections instead of three, creating a twisted rope effect that looks complex but follows simple over-under mechanics.
- Prep and section. Start with slightly textured hair—day-old or lightly misted with texturizing spray works best. Divide hair into two equal sections at the nape. Hold one section in each hand, keeping tension even.
- Create the infinity loop. Take a small piece from the outside of the right section and cross it over to join the left section. Then take a small piece from the outside of the left section and cross it under to join the right section. This creates the figure-eight pattern.
- Repeat the pattern. Continue alternating: right section gives a piece over, left section gives a piece under. Keep the pieces you're crossing roughly the same size and maintain steady tension as you work down the length.
- Secure and adjust. Tie off with a clear elastic when you reach the ends. Gently tug at the braid's edges to loosen and create volume—this is called pancaking and makes the infinity pattern more visible.
