How to Create a Lace Braid
A lace braid adds hair only from one side, creating an asymmetrical edge that sits beautifully along the hairline or part.
- Section and start. Take a triangular section at your hairline, about two inches wide. Divide into three equal strands and begin with one regular braid stitch to establish the pattern.
- Add from one side only. Cross the right strand over the middle, then add a small section of hair to the left strand before crossing it over. The right side gets no new hair—this creates the lace effect.
- Maintain the pattern. Continue adding hair only to the left strand with each stitch, keeping additions small and even. The braid should curve naturally along your hairline as you work toward the ear.
- Finish and secure. When you reach your ear or run out of hair to add, continue braiding normally with the remaining length. Secure with a clear elastic and gently tug at the outer edge to create volume.
