How to Do a Low Bun for Work
Pull hair into a low ponytail at the nape, twist, wrap around the base, and secure with bobby pins tucked underneath.
The low bun is foolproof elegance that works whether you're presenting to the board or grabbing lunch, which is exactly why it's perfect for people who refuse to think about their hair all day.
- Start with day-old hair. Work with hair that has some texture and grip. Freshly washed hair is too slippery and won't hold the shape. If your hair is clean, add a light texturizing spray for hold.
- Create a low ponytail. Brush hair straight back and secure with an elastic at the nape of your neck. Keep it low and centered. The height determines how polished versus relaxed your final look appears.
- Twist and wrap. Twist the ponytail length clockwise until it naturally wants to coil back on itself. Wrap the twisted hair around the elastic base, keeping the coil tight against your head.
- Pin strategically. Insert bobby pins at angles underneath the bun, catching both the wrapped hair and the hair underneath. Use pins that match your hair color and push them completely flush against your scalp.
