How to Get Beach Waves Without Heat Overnight
Braid damp hair or twist it into buns before bed, then sleep your way to effortless waves.
- Start with the right dampness. Hair should be about 70% dry—not soaking, not bone dry. Too wet and you'll wake up with soggy hair that takes forever to dry. Too dry and the waves won't set.
- Apply your hold product. Work sea salt spray or mousse through your lengths, avoiding the roots. This gives the waves something to grip onto while you sleep.
- Choose your overnight method. Braid loosely from mid-length down for subtle waves, or twist sections into mini buns secured with soft hair ties for tighter spirals. Six to eight sections work for most hair lengths.
- Sleep and release. Use a silk pillowcase to prevent frizz and breakage. In the morning, gently finger through the waves—no brushing unless you want to lose the texture entirely.
