Perm Rod Set on Natural Hair

Wrap damp hair around perm rods in small sections, set overnight, then carefully remove for defined curls.

  1. Prep damp hair. Start with freshly washed, 70% dry hair. Apply leave-in conditioner and styling cream from mid-length to ends. Hair should feel moist but not dripping.
  2. Section systematically. Part hair into 1-inch horizontal sections starting from the nape. Clip upper sections away. Work from bottom to top for easier access.
  3. Wrap each section. Take a section slightly narrower than your rod. Comb through, then wrap hair around the rod from ends to roots, rolling upward. Secure with the attached clip.
  4. Set completely. Sleep with a silk scarf or sit under a hooded dryer for 45 minutes. Hair must be completely dry before removing rods or curls will fall.
  5. Remove and style. Carefully unclip and unroll each rod in the same order you applied them. Gently separate curls with your fingers and fluff roots for volume.
