How to Do a Rope Twist Braid
Divide hair into two sections, twist each clockwise, then wrap them counterclockwise around each other.
- Prep your hair. Start with damp hair and apply a light hold mousse or texturizing spray. Hair with some grip works better than freshly washed, slippery strands.
- Create the base. Gather hair at your desired starting point and divide into two equal sections. Hold one section in each hand with a firm grip.
- Twist each section. Twist both sections clockwise, keeping the tension consistent. The tighter you twist, the more defined your final braid will be.
- Wrap sections together. Cross the right twisted section over the left, then continue wrapping them around each other in a counterclockwise direction. The opposing directions create the rope effect.
- Secure and finish. Continue the wrapping motion down to the ends, maintaining tension throughout. Secure with a clear elastic and gently tug at the braid to add volume.
