How to Do Side Cornrows with Curls
Part hair dramatically to one side, braid three tight cornrows along the parting, then curl the remaining loose hair with a 1-inch barrel.
- Create the side part. Part hair dramatically to one side, about 2 inches from your ear. Use a rat-tail comb to make the line sharp and clean. The smaller section will hold your cornrows.
- Section for cornrows. Divide the smaller side into three horizontal sections, each about an inch wide. Clip away the larger section of hair you'll curl later.
- Braid the cornrows. Start each cornrow at the part line, braiding tightly against the scalp. Add hair as you go, keeping tension even. Secure each end with a small clear elastic.
- Curl the loose hair. Use a 1-inch curling iron on the remaining hair, curling away from your face. Let curls cool completely, then gently finger through for soft waves.
- Set the style. Mist lightly with flexible hold hairspray. The contrast between structured braids and soft curls is the point.
