How to Create a Twist Crown Braid

Twist small sections of hair around your head, securing each twist with bobby pins to create a braided crown effect.

  1. Prep and section. Start with day-old hair for better grip and spray with texturizing spray. Part your hair where you normally would and section off a 2-inch wide strip along your hairline from one ear to the other.
  2. Begin the twist. Take a 1-inch section near your ear and split it into two pieces. Twist them around each other away from your face for about 2-3 turns. This creates your foundation twist.
  3. Add hair and continue. Grab a small section of loose hair near the twist and incorporate it into the bottom strand before twisting again. Continue this process, moving along your hairline toward the opposite ear.
  4. Secure the crown. When you reach the other ear, pin the end of your twist with a bobby pin tucked behind your ear. Gently tug at the twisted sections to create volume and soften the look.
  5. Finish the style. Gather remaining loose hair into a low bun or leave it down as desired. Set with light-hold hairspray to maintain the texture without stiffness.
