How to Create a Twisted Updo
Twist sections of hair back from your face, secure at the nape, then pin the lengths up and around for an effortless elevated look.
The whole point is looking like you twisted it up in thirty seconds, not like you spent an hour engineering perfection.
- Prep with texture. Start with day-old hair or add texture spray to clean hair. The slight grip prevents everything from sliding out. Brush through once, then leave it alone.
- Create the foundation twist. Take a two-inch section from your temple, twist it back toward your ear while gathering hair as you go. Secure with a clear elastic at the nape. Repeat on the other side.
- Gather the back. Collect the remaining hair at the nape with your twisted sections. Don't make it perfect—loose pieces add movement. Secure everything with one elastic.
- Twist and pin the lengths. Divide the ponytail into two sections, twist each one, then wrap them around the base in opposite directions. Pin as you go with bobby pins that match your hair color.
- Lock it down. Use 6-8 bobby pins inserted in opposite directions to secure the twisted coils. Tug gently at the crown for volume, then mist with hairspray.
