How to Get Root Lift with Velcro Rollers

Use large velcro rollers on damp hair at the crown, blow dry with heat, then cool completely before removing.

  1. Start with the right dampness. Hair should be about 70% dry — not soaking, not completely dry. Too wet and you'll be there forever, too dry and the lift won't hold.
  2. Section strategically. Take horizontal sections at your crown about as wide as your roller. Work from front to back, focusing on where you actually see your part.
  3. Roll with tension. Lift each section straight up and roll the hair around the velcro roller, pulling taut. The roller should sit directly on your scalp for maximum lift.
  4. Blast with heat, then cool. Blow dry each rolled section for 30-45 seconds, then hit it with cool air. The cooling step is what locks in the lift.
  5. Remove when completely cool. Wait until rollers are room temperature before gently unrolling. Hot hair will collapse the moment you remove the roller.
