The Wet-Look Bun

Apply gel to damp hair, slick back with a brush, twist into a low bun, and secure with bobby pins.

  1. Start with damp hair. Hair should be 70% dry—not soaking, not bone dry. This gives you control without the frizz. If your hair is already dry, mist it lightly with water.
  2. Apply strong-hold gel. Work a quarter-size amount through your hair from roots to ends. Focus on the top and sides where you need the sleekest finish. Less is more until you know your hair's needs.
  3. Brush everything back. Use a fine-tooth comb or boar bristle brush to pull hair straight back from your hairline. The goal is glass-smooth with zero bumps or pieces sticking out.
  4. Twist and secure. Gather hair at the nape, twist into a tight coil, then wrap into a bun. Pin with bobby pins that match your hair color, tucking the ends under for a clean finish.
