How to Plop Curly Hair for Better Definition
Wrap wet curly hair in a cotton t-shirt or microfiber towel to absorb excess water while maintaining curl pattern and reducing frizz.
- Start with soaking wet hair. Apply your styling products to dripping wet hair fresh from the shower. The water helps distribute product evenly and keeps curls clumped together.
- Lay out your fabric. Place a cotton t-shirt or microfiber towel flat on your bed or counter. The smooth texture won't disrupt your curl pattern like terry cloth does.
- Position and lower your head. Flip your head upside down and gently lower your curls onto the center of the fabric. Let gravity help maintain the natural curl formation without touching or scrunching.
- Wrap and secure. Bring the fabric up around your hairline, then twist the ends together at the nape of your neck. Secure with a hair tie or tuck the ends under for a snug but not tight fit.
- Time it right. Leave the plop for 10-20 minutes maximum. Longer can cause curls to dry in an unnatural position and create awkward bends.
