How to Scrunch Curls Without the Crunch
Use the right amount of product, scrunch gently with microfiber or cotton, and break the cast once hair is completely dry.
- Start with damp, not soaking hair. Remove excess water with a microfiber towel or cotton t-shirt by gently pressing, never rubbing. Hair should be damp enough to distribute product but not dripping wet.
- Apply product in sections. Work curl cream or gel through hair in small sections, focusing on mid-length to ends. Less is more—start with a quarter-sized amount and build up if needed.
- Scrunch with the right material. Use a microfiber towel or cotton t-shirt to scrunch upward toward your scalp. Avoid terry cloth towels which create friction and frizz.
- Air dry or diffuse on low. Let hair dry completely before touching it. If using a diffuser, keep heat and speed on low settings to prevent frizz and maintain curl definition.
- Break the cast. Once hair is 100% dry, gently scrunch with your hands or a bit of oil on your palms to soften any crunchiness while preserving the curl shape.
