How to Style a Bob Haircut

A bob works best when you embrace its natural weight and movement rather than fighting it.

A bob is geometry, not art project. Stop trying to make it do things it wasn't cut to do.

  1. Start with damp hair. Towel dry your hair until it's about 70% dry. Too wet and products won't distribute evenly. Too dry and you'll lose control.
  2. Apply heat protectant. Work a lightweight heat protectant through mid-lengths to ends. Skip the roots unless your hair is particularly fragile.
  3. Section and blow dry. Part your hair as you plan to wear it. Use a round brush to lift at the roots while directing the airflow down the hair shaft for smoothness.
  4. Finish with cool air. Hit each section with cool air from your blow dryer to set the style. This step makes the difference between hair that moves and hair that falls flat.
