How to Style a Lob Haircut

A lob works with texture — rough-dry it, bend pieces away from your face, and finish with oil on the ends.

The lob only looks expensive when it moves naturally — stop trying to make every piece perfect.

  1. Start with damp hair. Apply a lightweight mousse or texturizing cream to towel-dried hair. Focus on mid-lengths to ends, avoiding roots to prevent flatness.
  2. Rough dry with fingers. Use a diffuser or blow-dry with your hands, scrunching sections upward. This creates natural movement and prevents the blunt cut from looking too severe.
  3. Add bends with a flat iron. Take 2-inch sections and create loose waves by bending pieces away from your face. Alternate directions randomly for an undone look.
  4. Break up the texture. Run your fingers through to soften any obvious styling marks. The goal is effortless texture, not perfect curls.
  5. Seal the ends. Apply a drop of hair oil to your palms and smooth over the bottom inch of hair. This prevents the blunt cut from looking dry or choppy.
