How to Use a Diffuser for Curly Hair
Attach the diffuser to your blow dryer, scrunch hair into the bowl, and dry on low heat with minimal movement to enhance curl definition without frizz.
Most people rush the process and wonder why their curls look chaotic—diffusing is about patience, not speed.
- Prep damp hair. Start with hair that's 70-80% dry after towel-scrunching with a microfiber towel or cotton t-shirt. Apply your curl cream or gel while hair is still damp for best product distribution.
- Set up your diffuser. Attach the diffuser bowl to your blow dryer and set to low heat, low speed. High settings create frizz and disrupt curl formation.
- Position and scrunch. Flip your head to one side and gently scrunch a section of curls up into the diffuser bowl. Hold for 10-15 seconds, then release without dragging the diffuser through your hair.
- Work in sections. Move systematically around your head, scrunching each section into the diffuser. Focus on the roots to add volume and the mid-lengths where curls need the most support.
- Finish with cool air. Once hair is 90% dry, switch to cool air for 30 seconds to set the curl pattern. Avoid touching your hair until completely cool to prevent frizz.
