How to Use a 1-Inch Curling Wand

Wrap dry, heat-protected hair around the wand barrel away from your face, hold for 8-10 seconds, then release and let cool.

  1. Prep your hair. Start with completely dry hair and apply heat protectant from mid-length to ends. Section your hair into layers using clips, leaving the bottom layer down to start.
  2. Heat the wand. Set your curling wand to 350°F for fine hair or 375-400°F for thick or coarse hair. Wait for it to fully heat up before beginning.
  3. Section and curl. Take 1-2 inch sections of hair and wrap them around the barrel, starting about an inch from your roots. Always curl away from your face for a flattering shape.
  4. Hold and release. Hold each section for 8-10 seconds, then carefully release the curl into your palm. Let it cool completely in your hand before letting it fall.
  5. Finish and set. Once all sections are curled and cooled, gently run your fingers through the curls to soften them. Finish with a light hairspray for hold.
