How to Use an Automatic Curler

Feed small sections of hair into the chamber, let the tool do the work, and release after the timer stops.

  1. Prep your hair. Start with completely dry hair and apply heat protectant from mid-length to ends. Brush through to eliminate tangles that could snag in the mechanism.
  2. Section strategically. Take one-inch sections starting from the bottom layer. Thicker sections won't curl properly and could damage the tool's motor.
  3. Position and feed. Hold the curler horizontally and guide the hair section into the chamber until you feel it grab. Keep tension gentle but steady as the tool pulls the hair in.
  4. Wait for the signal. Most automatic curlers beep when the curl is set. Don't pull early or you'll get weak curls that fall out within hours.
  5. Release properly. Open the chamber completely before pulling the curl away. Cup the curl in your palm for a few seconds to let it cool in shape.
