How to Use a Hair Steamer for Deep Conditioning
Apply deep conditioner to damp hair, steam for 15-30 minutes depending on hair thickness, then rinse thoroughly.
- Prep your hair. Shampoo and towel-dry hair until damp, not soaking. Your hair should feel slightly wet but not dripping water everywhere.
- Apply product generously. Work deep conditioner through mid-lengths to ends, avoiding roots unless your scalp is extremely dry. Use more than you think you need — steam amplifies everything.
- Set up the steamer. Fill with distilled water, let it heat up completely, then adjust the height so steam reaches your entire head evenly. Sit back and let the heat do its work.
- Time it right. Steam for 15 minutes if your hair is fine, 20-25 for medium thickness, 30 for coarse or damaged hair. The heat opens your cuticles so the conditioner actually penetrates instead of just sitting on top.
- Cool rinse finish. Rinse with cool water to seal the cuticles back down. This locks in the conditioning and adds shine you can actually see.
