How to Use an Infrared Hair Dryer

Hold the infrared dryer 6-8 inches from damp hair and move it continuously in sections for even heat distribution and faster drying.

  1. Prep your hair. Start with towel-dried hair that's about 70% dry. Apply heat protectant from mid-length to ends, avoiding roots to prevent greasiness.
  2. Section strategically. Divide hair into 3-4 horizontal layers using clips. Work from bottom to top, keeping upper sections out of the way.
  3. Master the distance. Hold the dryer 6-8 inches from your head—closer than traditional dryers since infrared heat penetrates deeper. Move continuously to avoid hot spots.
  4. Follow the airflow. Direct airflow from roots to ends following your hair's natural growth pattern. This smooths the cuticle and reduces frizz.
  5. Finish cool. Blast each section with cool air for 5-10 seconds to set the style and lock in shine. This step is non-negotiable for lasting results.
