How to Use an Ionic Hair Dryer

Hold the dryer 6-8 inches from your hair, use the concentrator nozzle for smoothness, and work in sections from roots to ends.

  1. Prep your hair. Towel-dry until damp, not soaking. Apply a heat protectant from mid-length to ends. The ionic technology works best on hair that's about 70% dry.
  2. Section and position. Divide hair into 2-3 horizontal sections. Hold the dryer 6-8 inches away from your scalp. Closer means more heat damage, further means less efficiency.
  3. Use the concentrator nozzle. Attach the narrow nozzle that comes with your dryer. This directs the airflow and helps the negative ions smooth your hair cuticle. Without it, you're just blowing hot air around.
  4. Dry in one direction. Point the nozzle down the hair shaft, following your brush from roots to ends. This seals the cuticle and maximizes the smoothing effect of the ionic technology.
  5. Finish with cool air. Hit the cool shot button for 10-15 seconds on each section. This sets your style and adds extra shine by closing the hair cuticle completely.
