How to Use a Rat-Tail Comb for Perfect Parts
Use the pointed metal tip to section hair while the fine teeth smooth and control the part line.
- Start with slightly damp hair. Work on hair that's about 80% dry or lightly misted with water. The moisture gives you control without creating frizz, and the comb glides more smoothly through the strands.
- Position the tip at your hairline. Place the pointed end where you want your part to begin, typically at the center of your forehead or slightly off to one side. Press gently into the scalp but don't dig.
- Draw a clean line backward. Pull the tip straight back toward your crown in one smooth motion, keeping steady pressure. The metal tip separates the hair precisely while the weight of the comb keeps your hand steady.
- Use the teeth to refine. Flip the comb and use the fine teeth to smooth down any flyaways along the part line. Comb each section away from the part to lock it in place.
