How to Use a Wet Brush on Fragile Hair

Start at the ends and work upward in small sections, using minimal pressure while hair is damp but not dripping.

  1. Prep your hair properly. Remove excess water by gently pressing with a microfiber towel—hair should be damp, not soaking. Apply a leave-in conditioner or detangling spray from mid-length to ends for slip.
  2. Section and start low. Divide hair into manageable sections using clips. Begin at the very ends of each section, holding the hair above where you're brushing to minimize tension on the scalp.
  3. Work upward gradually. Brush only 2-3 inches at a time, moving the brush in short, gentle strokes. Once the ends are smooth, move slightly higher and repeat until you reach the roots.
  4. Use proper grip and pressure. Hold the brush lightly—let the flexible bristles do the work rather than forcing through tangles. If you hit resistance, stop and work that area more gently before continuing.
