How to Use a Hair Mask Correctly
Apply to damp, towel-dried hair from mid-length to ends, leave for the specified time, then rinse thoroughly with cool water.
Most people use too much product and don't rinse enough—your hair should feel soft but not slippery after styling.
- Start with clean, damp hair. Shampoo first to remove buildup and oils that block absorption. Gently squeeze out excess water with a towel until hair is damp, not dripping. The cuticles are open and ready to receive treatment.
- Section and apply strategically. Divide hair into 4-6 sections depending on thickness. Apply mask from mid-length to ends, avoiding roots unless specifically treating scalp concerns. Your ends are oldest and need the most attention.
- Work it through properly. Use a wide-tooth comb or your fingers to distribute evenly. Every strand should be coated but not drowning in product. More isn't better here.
- Time it right. Follow the package timing exactly—usually 3-20 minutes depending on the treatment. Set a timer because overprocessing can cause protein overload or weighing down fine hair.
- Rinse with intention. Use cool water to seal the cuticles and lock in benefits. Rinse until water runs clear but hair still feels slightly slippery—that residual slip is conditioning agents doing their job.
