How to Fix Dry Ends Without Cutting All Your Hair Off
Target the ends specifically with heavier oils and creams while keeping your scalp routine light.
- Section your approach. Treat your hair like two different zones — roots to mid-length get your regular routine, mid-length to ends get the repair treatment. This prevents overloading healthy hair with heavy products it doesn't need.
- Apply oils to damp ends only. Work argan, jojoba, or coconut oil through the bottom third of your hair when it's still slightly damp from washing. The water helps distribute the oil evenly and prevents that greasy, heavy feeling.
- Use a heavier cream on wash days. After your regular conditioner, apply a thick leave-in treatment or hair mask specifically to the ends. Let it sit while you do everything else in the shower, then rinse lightly — you want some residue left behind.
- Sleep with protection. Braid dry ends loosely or wrap them in a silk scarf before bed. Cotton pillowcases create friction that makes dry ends worse, especially when you toss and turn.
