How to Care for Flat Fine Hair at the Crown
Build volume at the crown through strategic cutting, root-lifting products, and targeted styling techniques that create lift without weighing hair down.
- Cut for natural lift. Ask for layers that start at the crown to remove weight and create movement. Avoid blunt cuts that pull fine hair down and make flatness more obvious.
- Prep with lightweight volume. Apply volumizing mousse or root lift spray to damp hair, focusing on the crown area. These products add grip and lift without the heaviness that crushes fine hair.
- Blow dry with intention. Use a round brush to lift sections at the crown while blow drying in the opposite direction of natural growth. Finish with cool air to set the lift.
- Tease strategically. Gently backcomb small sections at the crown using a fine-tooth comb. Focus on the hair closest to your scalp and smooth the top layer over the teased sections.
- Set the volume. Mist with light-hold hairspray while hair is still lifted, then gently release. This locks in the shape without creating stiffness that weighs hair down.
