How to Restore Your Curl Pattern After Heat Damage

Cut damaged ends, deep condition weekly, and air dry while scrunching to encourage natural curl reformation.

Heat damage is like a bad relationship - you can't fix what's already broken, but you can make better choices moving forward.

  1. Remove the damaged portions. Schedule regular trims every 6-8 weeks to cut away heat-damaged ends that won't curl properly. The damaged hair won't recover, so removing it allows healthy hair to grow in its place.
  2. Deep condition religiously. Use a protein-free deep conditioner weekly to restore moisture and elasticity. Focus on mid-lengths to ends where damage is most severe. Leave on for 15-20 minutes with a plastic cap.
  3. Master the scrunch technique. Apply leave-in conditioner to damp hair, then scrunch upward from ends to roots to encourage curl formation. Use a microfiber towel or cotton t-shirt to avoid roughing up the cuticle.
  4. Protect while you sleep. Sleep with hair in a loose pineapple or medusa clipping to prevent friction. Use a silk pillowcase or bonnet to maintain moisture and reduce breakage overnight.
