How to Add Volume to Thin Hair
Volume comes from strategic washing, root-focused products, and blow-drying upside down with the right brush.
- Wash every other day maximum. Thin hair gets weighed down by natural oils faster than thick hair. Skip daily washing but don't go past 48 hours or your scalp will overcompensate with more oil production.
- Apply volumizing products to damp roots only. Work mousse or root lift spray into just the first two inches from your scalp. Product on the lengths will flatten thin hair instantly.
- Blow-dry upside down with a round brush. Flip your head and rough dry until 80% dry, then use a medium round brush to lift sections at the root while blow-drying. The upside-down position trains hair to stand away from your scalp.
- Finish with cool air and dry shampoo. Hit your roots with cool air to set the volume, then spray dry shampoo at the roots for grip and texture. This prevents the style from falling flat within hours.
