How to Refresh Day-Two Curls

Mist with water, scrunch in leave-in conditioner, and diffuse on low heat to revive curl pattern without overwashing.

Day-two curls that look effortlessly undone are infinitely more chic than freshly washed perfect spirals—embrace the imperfection.

  1. Assess the damage. Check where your curls need help—usually the top layer and around your face. Skip areas that still look good to avoid disturbing what's working.
  2. Dampen strategically. Use a spray bottle to mist sections that need refreshing. You want them damp, not soaked—too much water will make you start over.
  3. Apply leave-in product. Work a small amount of leave-in conditioner or curl cream through the dampened sections. Use the praying hands method to smooth it down the hair shaft.
  4. Scrunch and reshape. Gently scrunch the treated sections to encourage the curl pattern back. Twist any pieces that have lost their shape around your finger to reset them.
  5. Dry with intention. Use a diffuser on low heat and low speed, or air dry if you have time. Avoid touching until completely dry to prevent frizz.
