Makeup for Mature Hooded Eyes
Focus on lifting techniques: matte shadows above the hood, darker colors in the outer corner, and strategic liner placement that's visible when eyes are open.
- Prime and set the base. Use an eyeshadow primer to prevent creasing and keep makeup in place. Dust translucent powder over the entire eye area, including the hood, to create grip for your shadows and prevent transfer.
- Map your canvas. Look straight ahead in the mirror with eyes open. The visible lid space is where your main color goes, not under the hood where it disappears. This changes everything about placement.
- Light shade above the hood. Apply a matte shade slightly lighter than your skin tone from the brow bone down to where the hood begins. This creates the illusion of more space and prevents the heavy look that shimmers can create.
- Define the outer corner. Place a deeper matte shade in the outer V, blending upward toward the tail of your brow. This creates lift and definition that's visible even when the eye is open.
- Strategic liner placement. Keep liner thin and close to the lash line. On hooded eyes, thick liner disappears and makes eyes look smaller. Consider tightlining instead of a visible line.
- Curl and lift lashes. Use an eyelash curler at the base, middle, and tips of lashes. Apply mascara focusing on lift rather than length to open up the eye area.
