How to Do a Nude Lip with Smoky Eye

Balance a dramatic smoky eye with a nude lip by keeping the lip color muted and slightly cooler than your natural lip tone.

Most people choose nudes that are too warm and end up looking like they forgot to put on lipstick - the whole point is intentional minimalism, not accidental absence.

  1. Prep your lips. Exfoliate with a lip scrub and apply a thin layer of lip balm. Let it absorb for five minutes, then blot excess oil with tissue.
  2. Choose your nude. Pick a shade one to two tones cooler than your natural lip color. Warm nudes compete with smoky eyes, cool nudes complement them.
  3. Line and fill. Use a lip liner that matches your chosen nude exactly. Line your lips, then fill them in completely to create a base that prevents bleeding.
  4. Apply lipstick. Pat the nude lipstick over the liner with your finger for a soft, diffused finish. Avoid direct application from the tube which creates too much opacity.
  5. Set the look. Press a tissue to your lips, then dust a tiny amount of translucent powder through the tissue. This locks the color without adding texture.
