The Red Lip with Clean Face

Prep lips, apply red lipstick with precision, and keep everything else minimal.

  1. Prep the canvas. Exfoliate lips with a lip scrub or damp washcloth to remove dead skin. Apply a thin layer of lip balm and let it absorb for five minutes. Blot excess with tissue so the lipstick has something to grip.
  2. Line for longevity. Use a red lip liner that matches your lipstick or is slightly deeper. Trace the natural lip line without overdrawing. Fill in the entire lip area to create a base that prevents bleeding.
  3. Apply the red. Start from the center of your upper lip and work outward. Press the lipstick into your lips rather than dragging it across. Build up in thin layers for even coverage and better staying power.
  4. Clean the edges. Use a flat concealer brush with a tiny amount of concealer to sharpen the lip line. This creates that perfect, editorial clean edge that makes the whole look feel intentional.
  5. Set if needed. For all-day wear, place a tissue over your lips and dust translucent powder through it. This locks the color without adding texture or changing the finish.
