Makeup Over Dry Patches Without the Flakes
Prep with targeted hydration, use cream products, and build coverage gradually to avoid lifting or emphasizing texture.
- Hydrate the specific areas. Apply a rich moisturizer or facial oil only to dry patches, not your entire face. Let it absorb for 10 minutes before makeup. This creates a smooth base without making oily areas greasy.
- Prime strategically. Use a hydrating primer on dry areas and your regular primer elsewhere. Pat, don't rub, to avoid disturbing the flakes. Skip silicone primers on very dry skin as they can pill.
- Choose cream or liquid formulas. Powder foundations cling to dry patches and emphasize texture. Stick to liquid or cream foundations and concealers that blend into skin rather than sitting on top.
- Build coverage gradually. Apply thin layers and press gently with a damp beauty sponge. Heavy application in one go will lift dry skin and create a patchy finish.
- Set selectively. Only powder areas that get oily. Leave dry patches without powder to maintain moisture and prevent a cakey appearance.
