How to Apply Eyeshadow for Beginners
Start with a neutral base, build color gradually from light to dark, and blend upward and outward.
Most people use too much product and too many colors. Master one neutral shade perfectly before adding complexity.
- Prime your lids. Pat eyeshadow primer or concealer across your entire eyelid from lash line to brow. This prevents creasing and makes colors pop. Let it set for 30 seconds.
- Set with neutral powder. Dust a light, skin-tone eyeshadow over the primer with a fluffy brush. This creates a smooth base and makes blending easier later.
- Apply your main color. Pack your chosen eyeshadow onto a flat shader brush and press it onto your mobile lid. Build up intensity with patting motions rather than sweeping.
- Add depth to the crease. Use a slightly darker shade on a fluffy blending brush in your crease. Start light and build slowly, blending in small circular motions.
- Highlight the inner corner. Dab a light, shimmery shade on your inner corners and under the brow bone with your ring finger or a small brush. This opens up your eyes instantly.
