How to Apply False Lashes for Beginners
Measure, trim, apply thin glue to the band, wait thirty seconds, then press from the center outward with tweezers or your fingers.
Most people overthink this and end up with lashes sitting on top of their lids like caterpillars—the secret is patience with the glue timing, not perfection with placement.
- Measure and trim. Hold the lash against your eye without glue first. Trim from the outer corner if they're too long—your natural lash line is the blueprint. Never trim from the inner corner where lashes are shortest.
- Apply adhesive sparingly. Squeeze a thin line of glue along the lash band, focusing on the ends where lifting happens most. Wait thirty seconds until the glue becomes tacky—wet glue slides around and creates chaos.
- Position and press. Look down into a mirror and place the lash as close to your natural lash line as possible. Start from the center, then press the inner corner, then outer corner. Use tweezers or clean fingers—whatever feels more controlled.
- Blend and adjust. Gently press your natural lashes into the false ones with a spoolie or your finger. Add one coat of mascara if needed to marry everything together, but often the lashes look better without it.
