How to Apply Glitter Eyeshadow Without Looking Like a Craft Project
Press glitter shadow onto tacky eyeshadow primer with a flat, dense brush or your finger for maximum payoff and minimal fallout.
Glitter is like a statement coat — when you wear it, it should be the only statement you're making that day.
- Prime strategically. Apply eyeshadow primer only where the glitter will go. Let it get slightly tacky for 30 seconds. This creates the grip glitter needs to stay put instead of migrating to your cheekbones.
- Map your placement. Decide if you want glitter on the entire lid, just the center, or as an accent. Start small. You can always add more, but removing excess glitter is messy work.
- Press, don't sweep. Use a flat, dense brush or your finger to press glitter onto the tacky base. Patting motions pack the particles down and prevent fallout. Sweeping brushes just fling glitter everywhere.
- Blend the edges. Use a clean fluffy brush to soften any harsh lines where glitter meets regular shadow. Work in gentle circular motions, moving outward from the glitter area.
- Clean up fallout. Use a flat brush dipped in translucent powder to sweep away any glitter that landed on your cheeks. Do this before applying the rest of your makeup.
