How to Create a Cut Crease Eyeshadow Look

A cut crease is created by carving out the crease with concealer, then applying contrasting eyeshadow above and below the line.

Cut creases look complicated but they're just geometry—once you understand the angles, it's easier than a perfectly blended smoky eye.

  1. Map your crease. Look straight ahead in a mirror and use a fluffy brush to lightly dust where your natural crease falls. This is your guide, not your final line. The cut crease will sit slightly above this natural fold.
  2. Apply base eyeshadow. Pack your chosen eyeshadow across the entire lid and blend upward past where you want the cut line to be. This creates the foundation that you'll later carve into. Use patting motions rather than sweeping to build intensity.
  3. Cut the crease with concealer. Using a flat, precise brush, apply concealer in a curved line above your natural crease. Start from the inner corner and work outward, creating a clean arc that follows your eye shape. The concealer should be one shade lighter than your skin tone.
  4. Set and define. Gently pat translucent powder over the concealer to set it, then use a small brush to apply a contrasting eyeshadow below the cut line on your mobile lid. The contrast between the upper and lower sections creates the dramatic cut crease effect.
