How to Keep Your Eyeshadow from Creasing All Day

Prime your lids, set with powder, and use thin layers of shadow built gradually.

Most people use eyeshadow primer like moisturizer when they should be treating it like glue.

  1. Start with clean, dry lids. Remove any oil or moisturizer from your eyelids with micellar water or a gentle cleanser. Even the smallest trace of oil will cause eyeshadow to slip and crease within hours.
  2. Apply eyeshadow primer. Pat a thin layer of eyeshadow primer from lash line to brow bone. The primer creates a grippy base that holds powder in place and prevents oils from breaking through.
  3. Set the primer with translucent powder. Lightly dust translucent powder over the primed area with a fluffy brush. This absorbs any remaining moisture and creates the perfect surface for eyeshadow application.
  4. Build color in thin layers. Apply eyeshadow in multiple thin layers rather than one heavy application. Tap excess powder off your brush between dips to avoid overloading the lid with product.
  5. Focus on the crease area. Pay special attention to where your eyelid naturally folds, as this is where creasing typically starts. Use a smaller, denser brush to press shadow into this area rather than sweeping.
