A Simplified Summer Cheek Routine
Summer makeup routines require a shift in both texture and application. As humidity increases and the natural light shifts, heavier formulas often sit heavy on the surface. The goal is a seamless transition between skin and color that mimics a natural flush rather than a constructed look.
This routine prioritizes cream-based products that blend into the skin rather than sitting atop it. By selecting warm undertones and utilizing fingers as the primary tool, you reduce the risk of streaking and maintain a sheer, breathable finish throughout the day.
- Establish the base. Ensure the skin is sufficiently hydrated so that cream products do not grab at dry patches. Apply a sheer, tinted moisturizer or serum if you desire, but ensure it is dry to the touch before proceeding. This provides a uniform canvas for the cheek color.
- Deposit the pigment. Select a cream blush in a warm coral, peach, or bronze shade. Using your ring finger, tap a small amount of product onto the high points of your cheekbones rather than the apples of the cheeks. This lifts the facial features and creates a more modern, structured appearance.
- Diffuse the edges. Using a clean finger or a damp, dense sponge, buff the edges of the pigment in small, circular motions. The objective is to eliminate any visible lines of demarcation. Ensure the color fades gradually into the surrounding skin to replicate the way blood flows to the surface.
- Set the periphery. Lightly dust a translucent powder only on the areas where you do not have product, such as the sides of the nose or the center of the forehead. Avoid powdering over the cream blush, as this will turn the finish matte and negate the desired summer glow. Leave the cheek area untouched to allow the cream to remain luminous.
A natural flush is defined by the absence of visible edges.
