The Jawline Match for Concealer
Most cosmetic testing occurs on the inner wrist or the back of the hand, areas that rarely match the pigment density of the facial skin. The skin on the jawline serves as the ideal bridge between the neck and the face, providing the most accurate neutral ground for color matching. Selecting a shade here ensures a seamless transition when masking imperfections elsewhere.
A product that disappears into the jawline will disappear anywhere else on the face. This method eliminates the common contrast between a pale face and a darker neck or a discolored complexion.
- Cleanse and prepare. Begin with a clean face free of any residual product, oil, or moisturizer. The skin must be at its natural state to perceive the true undertone. Use a gentle cleanser and pat dry with a soft cloth.
- Test the potential candidates. Select three concealer shades that appear closest to your skin tone. Apply a vertical stroke of each color along the jawline, extending from the bottom of the ear down toward the chin. Do not blend these strokes immediately.
- Evaluate the transition. Allow the pigments to sit for three minutes to observe potential oxidation. The shade that completely vanishes into the skin, without creating a light or dark halo, is your match. Observe the transition both toward the cheek and toward the neck.
- Confirm in natural light. Move to a window or an outdoor area to view the samples in natural light. Artificial lighting often contains yellow or blue tones that obscure the true match. Wipe away the non-matching shades with a clean, damp cloth.
A concealer that disappears into your jawline is the only one you need.
