Mastering the Cushion Foundation
Cushion foundation represents a specific delivery mechanism designed to distribute product in thin, controlled layers. Unlike standard liquid bottles, the saturated foam pad requires a precise pressing technique to ensure the sponge applicator picks up an even amount of pigment.
This method favors sheer, buildable coverage over heavy, opaque layering. It functions primarily to neutralize minor tone irregularities while maintaining the skin's natural surface texture.
- Prime the surface. Cleanse and moisturize your face thoroughly. Allow the moisturizer to absorb for at least three minutes before proceeding. A tacky or damp surface will cause the cushion pigment to streak upon application.
- Saturate the applicator. Open the compact and place the provided puff flat against the cushion. Apply firm, even pressure to the center of the foam. Lift the puff and observe the pattern of the transfer to confirm it is evenly distributed.
- Apply via stippling. Beginning at the center of the face, press the puff into the skin using a repeated tapping motion. Work outward toward the hairline and jaw. Avoid dragging the sponge across the skin as this disturbs the product layer.
- Build specific coverage. Assess your coverage needs. If additional pigment is required, press the puff into the cushion once more and repeat the stippling motion only on the areas needing correction. Keep the layer thin to prevent cakey accumulation.
- Refine the edges. Use a clean, dry finger to gently blend the foundation line around the hairline and jaw. This final pass ensures the product has merged with your natural skin tone. Close the compact lid tightly to prevent the formula from evaporating.
Consistency in pressure determines the uniformity of the final finish.
