How to Apply Bronzer Correctly
Apply bronzer where the sun naturally hits your face: forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin, using a large fluffy brush in light, sweeping motions.
Most people apply bronzer like they're painting a fence—heavy handed and obvious. The goal is to look like you have good genes, not good makeup.
- Choose your shade. Pick a bronzer one to two shades darker than your skin tone. Avoid anything with orange undertones unless you're very warm-toned. Test on your jawline in natural light.
- Load your brush properly. Use a large, fluffy brush and tap off excess product. You want barely any bronzer on the brush. Building up is easier than blending down.
- Map your application. Apply in a 3 shape: across your forehead, down your cheek, and along your jawline. Add a light sweep across your nose bridge and chin where sun naturally hits.
- Blend seamlessly. Use circular motions to blend harsh edges. The key is creating a gradient, not visible lines. Step back and check in natural light.
- Build gradually. Layer thin applications rather than going heavy at once. You can always add more, but removing excess bronzer disrupts your base makeup.
