How to Apply Foundation Perfectly
Perfect foundation is about skin preparation, the right amount of product, and building coverage gradually from the center of your face outward.
Most people use twice as much foundation as they need and wonder why it looks obvious—your goal is better skin, not visible makeup.
- Prep your canvas. Start with clean, moisturized skin and let your moisturizer fully absorb for 5 minutes. Foundation slides over properly prepped skin instead of clinging to dry patches or sitting on top of wet product.
- Choose your tool. Damp beauty sponges give the most natural finish, dense brushes provide full coverage, and fingers work best for light, skin-like application. Each tool gives different coverage levels with the same foundation.
- Apply strategically. Dot foundation on your forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin, then blend outward toward your hairline and jawline. Start with less product than you think you need—you can always build coverage where needed.
- Blend seamlessly. Work in sections and blend while the foundation is still workable. Pay special attention to your jawline and hairline to avoid harsh lines that give away where your foundation ends.
- Build where needed. Add extra coverage only to areas that need it—usually the center of your face. The goal is your natural skin showing through, not a mask of product.
