Strawberry Girl
Strawberry girl is a soft look pretending to be a bold one. The cheeks read as fresh-air flush. The freckles read as inherited. The lip looks bitten, not painted. None of it works if any single piece is loud — the whole point is that all four pieces sit at the same volume.
Below is the version we recommend. Five steps, five minutes, in a fixed order. The order is the secret: blush before highlighter, freckles after blush, gloss last. Do it in any other order and the freckles smear or the cheeks read as costume.
- Skin tint, not foundation.. Two pumps of skin tint or sheer foundation, pressed across the face with damp fingertips. The whole point of strawberry girl is that you can still see the skin underneath — full coverage hides the freckles you're about to draw. If you only own a heavier foundation, mix one drop with a pea of moisturiser before you apply it.
- Cream blush, low and wide.. A pea of pink-red cream blush, warmed on the back of your hand, then pressed onto the apples of the cheeks and dragged outward toward the temple. Low and wide — not high and tight. The look is wind-and-cold flush, not red-carpet contour. Apply less than you think; you can always add a second layer in thirty seconds.
- Press the freckles, don't draw them.. Sharpen a brown eyeliner pencil. Press the tip onto the apples of the cheeks and the bridge of the nose — five to fifteen dots, scattered, never in a line. Vary the size and the spacing. Real freckles are random; drawn freckles are too. After the dots are down, tap them once with a clean fingertip to soften the edges.
- Diffuse with a clean brush.. A clean, dry, fluffy brush — no product on it — swept once across the freckles and once across the blush. The goal is to break the edges of both without smudging either into a blur. One pass. If you go over twice, the freckles spread and look like dirt; once, and they look like skin.
- Lip oil in the same red as the cheeks.. One drop of pink-red lip oil, applied straight from the wand or with the fingertip. The lip should match the cheeks within a shade — pink-red on pink-red. Mismatched lip and cheek read as two products; matched lip and cheek read as one face. Wait sixty seconds before drinking anything; lip oils need a minute to set or they slide.
Strawberry girl is a soft look pretending to be a bold one. Loud kills it.
