How to Make Your Lipstick Last All Day

The secret is layering with precision: prep, apply, blot, powder, repeat.

Most people skip the liner step because it feels like extra work, then wonder why their lipstick disappears by lunch.

  1. Prep your lips properly. Exfoliate with a lip scrub or dry toothbrush to remove dead skin. Apply a thin layer of lip balm and let it absorb for five minutes, then tissue off any excess. Clean lips grip color better than slippery ones.
  2. Use a lip liner everywhere. Line your lips, then fill them in completely with the same liner. This creates a base that holds your lipstick and prevents bleeding. Choose a liner that matches your lipstick exactly or go one shade deeper.
  3. Apply lipstick in thin layers. Put on your first coat directly from the bullet or with a brush. Blot with tissue, then apply a second coat. This builds intensity while creating multiple grip points for the color to cling to.
  4. Set with translucent powder. Hold a tissue over your lips and dust translucent powder over it with a fluffy brush. The powder goes through the tissue to set the lipstick without making it cakey. Remove the tissue and apply one final thin layer of lipstick.
