A Guide to Lip Primer Application

Lip primer is a functional product designed to create a uniform canvas before pigment application. Unlike standard balms, which provide hydration but often leave a slick finish that hinders adherence, a primer anchors the makeup.

Using a primer ensures that lip color remains within the intended boundaries without feathering or settling into fine lines. It serves as a structural layer between the natural skin and the cosmetic product.

Applying this product requires minimal effort but significantly changes the outcome of your makeup application.

1. Prepare the surface. Ensure the lips are clean and dry. Any lingering oils or moisture from previous balms will prevent the primer from setting correctly. Use a soft tissue to blot the lips if necessary.
2. Apply a thin layer. Dab a small amount of primer onto the center of the bottom lip using your ring finger. Distribute the product evenly toward the corners of the mouth. Ensure you reach the outer edges where feathering typically occurs.
3. Allow the set time. Let the primer sit untouched for one full minute. This resting period allows the volatile ingredients to evaporate and the film-forming agents to adhere to the skin. Do not rub your lips together during this phase.
4. Follow with color. Apply your lipstick or gloss over the set primer. You will notice that the pigment glides on with more opacity and precision. The texture of the lips will feel smoothed and significantly more uniform.
